Copper drifts as interest rate fears weigh on demand expectations

SINGAPORE: Copper floated lower on Thursday after the release of hotter-than-expected US economic data the previous day raised fears of higher-for-longer interest rates that could compress demand for the red metal. Benchmark three-month copper on the London Metal Exchange was down 0.22% at $14,586.5 a metric ton by 0317 GMT. The most-traded copper contract on the Shanghai Futures Exchange fell 0.52% to 110,750 yuan ($16,494.89) a ton.
